Restoring the Raukūmara

will not take one breath, but many.

In the last five years, Raukūmara Pae Maunga has designed and delivered a leading restoration programme, which is generating unparalleled results and healing ecosystems from mountain to sea.

Thanks to collective efforts of Many, the Raukūmara is responding. Greater tree canopy health, the return of birdsong, new economic opportunities emerge, and the revitalisation of cultural connections. We have stared to reverse decades of degradation to the Raukūmara, there there is still much healing to be done.

Your generations support will help protect taonga and endemic species, like the Kiwi and long-tailed bat. It will strengthen our pest control operations and help us manage invasive species that threaten the Raukūmara forests special ecosystems. Your support will help us grow the next generation of conservation leaders, build community resilience and career pathways.

Deer and Goat Manangement

Raukūmara Pae Maunga leads one of New Zealand’s most advanced, large-scale deer and goat management programmes. Pioneering innovation through the use of thermal imaging and DNA-based surveys to accurately assess deer density and improve precision management, RPM is implementing a targeted, humane, and scientifically grounded approach to restore ecological balance across the Eastern region.

Community engagement

Ka ora ai te Raukūmara, ka ora ai te Iwi. When the Raukūmara is well, so too are the people. Our communications and engagement team carry the responsibility of ensuring that whānau, hapū, and iwi are fully informed and are actively part of the project. This work is not just about ‘sharing information’ - it is about honouring the principle that well-informed people make well-informed decisions.
